Spring Vegetable Gardens

This lesson was done with K-2 students using marker and water colors. Students explored the idea of new growth. We related this to ourselves and talked about how sometimes we can’t see the ways we have been growing but if we dig deep enough, our hard work can be visible. We read the book Tops & Bottoms at the start of this lesson.

Students learned about our environment, how plants grow, and the important roles insects play in gardens. They practiced their “drawing light until right” techniques with pencils and then traced over those lines with their permanent markers! They learned how to responsibly write with Sharpies and worked on appropriate pressure to use with these tools. They loved exploring the vibrant water color and moving it around on the paper.
